Denver, Colorado: naming agency services for small businesses

Since this website page is about Denver naming, it seems appropriate to talk about the naming of Denver, Colorado itself.

Naming Denver wasn’t a name assignment that was crowd sourced. (Good thing, that, or we’d all probably still be waiting for that needle in a haystack to surface.) That said, obviously Denver wasn’t professionally named, either. As with most city names, Denver naming has everything to do with the city’s pioneering past. (It should be noted that ancestral Pueblo had a long history in the area, and that the Apache, Cheyenne and Comanche later also called the area home.) Formerly Denver City, the city had been originally named after James Denver, the territorial governor, in hopes of becoming the county seat of Arapaho County in the Kansas Territory. As the political landscape changed and the town grew, the word “city” was dropped, and Denver eventually became a state capitol. With an elevation of 5,280 feet, today’s “Mile High City” draws not only skiers but fans of modern and indigenous art, football, technological innovation, food and fun.
