San Diego, California: naming agency services for small businesses

Since this website page is about San Diego naming, it seems appropriate to talk about the naming of San Diego, California itself.

Naming San Diego wasn’t the work of some big branding agency or professional naming consultant. Of course not! As with the derivation of most city names, when we want to learn more about San Diego naming, we turn to its foundational history. Sebastian Vizcaino was sent out to map the California coast in 1602. Arriving on his ship San Diego, Vizcaino surveyed the harbor, including Mission Bay and Point Loma, and named the area in the same manner he had named his flagship: after Saint Didacus, a Spaniard more commonly known as San Diego de Alcalá. To name San Diego sell-points today, no list would be complete without mentioning its 70 miles of gorgeous beaches, its idyllic climate and its enviable assemblage of world-class family attractions. Among these are the San Diego Zoo and its associated Safari Park, SeaWorld San Diego and Legoland California.
