Since this website page is about Houston naming, it seems appropriate to talk about the naming of Houston, Texas itself.

Naming Houston wasn’t some plum name generation assignment that happily landed in the in-box of some big branding and naming agency. Quite the contrary, Houston naming has everything to do with city’s founding. After the Texas revolution in 1836, the wealthy Allen brothers decided to buy property, start a town on a beautiful bayou (a marshy outlet of a lake or river) and name it after the man whose army had defeated Mexican troops, Sam Houston. Texas’ most populous city and the fourth largest city in the U.S., Houston is known for its Space Center, historic buildings, fine dining and unique mix of upbeat energy and down-home hospitality.
